2012, 2013 and 2014 World Strongest Man athlete
A BIT ABOUT ME:-
Hello, my name is Graham Hicks and I am 27 years old and Live in Morecambe in the North West of England. I have a full time job working as a design support engineer for the company BAE Systems, been there 9 years after serving an apprentiship with them.
At the beginning of 2010 I decided to take up strongman training. So i try and find time out of my normal day to put the hours in needed to train for the sport. At the time my bodyweight was around 107kg so I entered a competition for the under 105kg weight category in April that year.
So April 2010 was my my first strongman competition in the weight category for under 105kgs, this was a Norther qualifier for England Strongest Man. I came 7th in this competition and it enabled me to compete in the England's strongest man competition under 105kg. I was thrilled with the results as I finished in 3rd position. The 3rd place finish enabled me to compete at UK's strongest man under 105kgs and this increased my passion and made me strive higher to become the best at what I enjoy doing.
I carried on competing in U105kg weight class for the duration of 2011 and won all the competitions I entered that year at U105kg level.
In 2012, although I was an under 105kg competitor and on the back of a competition win in march I felt privileged to be invited to enter an open weight competition in the same month, a qualifier for Europes Strongest Man. I finished in 4th place which is better than I had expected as I was competing against more experienced and stronger competitors. This was an even greater challenge to myself as it was out of my weight league. It was after this competition that I decided I wanted to be an open competitor and enjoy the new challenges ahead.
At britains Strongest man 2012 I managed 4th place, this then earnt me a place at WSM. I was overwhelmed with the opportunity of going and enjoyed every minute. Now my training a is and always
will be to make WSM again.
In 2013 I managed to Qualify for WSM again which was in Sanya, China. Going always makes me strive to improve my abilitites and slowly but surely i am doing. My aim is to one day be good enough to compete for the British title which at the moment is not within my reach but each year from now i think il be taking some big steps towards it.
